Overview
Nestlé Purina PetCare (Purina) revitalized a former Miller Coors facility in Eden, North Carolina, transforming it into a cutting-edge dry pet food manufacturing plant. To introduce modern manufacturing to the next-generation workforce, the factory features a Manufacturing Experience Center that showcases innovative and sustainable production processes while highlighting Purina’s investments in people and the community. To bring this vision to life, Purina partnered with Gray’s Branding + Graphics Studio to design an expansive environmental graphics package, covering over 15,000 square feet and facilitating public tours to engage the community.
Think Big
The challenge was to create bold, engaging content and graphics that maintain participant interest while controlling information overload and navigation within various spaces. Gray integrated large-scale graphics into the welcome area and hallways leading to the expansive 300-foot-long, 22-foot-wide and 22-foot-high mezzanine overlooking the manufacturing facility. Three-dimensional elements allowed for easy updates, while a dynamic blend of colors, fonts and digital screens enhanced participant interest and readability.

During the initial project assessment, Gray identified significant design potential beyond just graphics. Returning to the studio with this vision, the team set out to create a memorable experience. The result was a visually impactful welcome wall featuring bold infographics that highlighted Purina’s positive contributions to the Eden community. In the conference room, custom-designed furniture, interactive displays and product stations were added to engage visitors. Quotes from Purina’s founder, William Danforth, were integrated to humanize the technical messaging, connecting the company’s mission and values with visitors. Digital screens were also included to provide supplementary information, further enriching the educational experience. Overall, Gray’s design made a lasting impression, showcasing Purina’s excellence in manufacturing and commitment to the community.

Working closely with the internal communications team, Gray developed style guidelines, conducted content reviews and managed the project to create a cohesive, immersive experience. This approach strengthened the relationship between Purina and the local community, furthering the company’s community engagement and educational goals.
