Overview
Gray transformed a former bowling alley into a modern worship space for Harvester Church’s new campus—honoring the character of the original building while aligning with the design of their main campus. The curved entry and storefront were preserved as a nod to the building’s past, while a new canopy and updated exterior materials including natural wood, corrugated metal siding and vertical insulated panels, establish a fresh, cohesive identity.

Design Approach
What was once a design challenge—the bowling alley’s multi-level floor plate—became an opportunity to define three distinct zones: a welcoming lobby, a large auditorium and a flexible children’s education wing. The natural grade changes were leveraged to enhance visibility, acoustics and intuitive circulation throughout the space.
Gather, Learn + Lead
The lobby and café are designed as warm, communal gathering spaces that serve as the heart of the campus encouraging connection and conversation before and after services. Five classrooms tailored for youth ministry create a dedicated zone for children’s education and spiritual growth and purpose-built offices support church staff and leadership with practical, efficient workspaces to manage day-to-day operations and outreach.

A Spiritual Centerpiece
Integrated into the lower level, a fully submersible baptismal font is centrally located, visible from the lobby and café and accessible at any time, supporting spontaneous and scheduled baptisms.

Flexible, Modern Worship Space
The 335-seat auditorium, originally envisioned with tiered seating, was reimagined with all moveable seating on a single level. This flexible design supports a wide range of gatherings and community events.
Structural Reinterpretation
Rather than conceal the building’s origins, Gray embraced them reinterpreting the structure to celebrate its unique features. Twin slabs uncovered during demolition created opportunities to play with volume and flow. The resulting processional movement guides visitors from the bright, open entry into deeper spiritual and communal spaces. This fast-tracked, community-focused project reflects Harvester’s mission to create a welcoming and accessible worship environment.
