Project Overview:
Watlow had gone without a significant renovation since the 1980’s. The Saint Louis site would become Watlow’s Advanced Technology Center, a facility that merged HQ operations, manufacturing and R+D. A key design challenge, which required three phases and seven relocation sequences, was maintaining the current site while re-orienting the production flow 90° and keeping the entire facility operational during the construction process. A 30,000 square foot, two-story glass addition projects a high-tech image upon arrival and orients visitors to the main entrance. The employee entrance leads into Louie’s, an open, airy café that also serves as a hub for team members to gather for casual meetings. The bright and open office offers access to the labs and testing facility, while the conference rooms overlook the atrium. The end result is an evolution of form, function and flexibility that positions Watlow to attract and retain top talent in its field and support growth for the future.
