The Crossings @ Chesterfield

Project: Environmental Graphics, Wayfinding + Exterior Building Design

Services:

Campus Signage Master Plan / Graphic Design / Fabrication + Construction Management

Project Overview:

The Crossing Church approached Gray Design Group’s Branding + Graphic Design (B+G) Studio with a specific challenge – direct visitors to the main building entrance, a visible challenge compared to other building entrances on campus. The initial request was to create a driveway gate to improve traffic navigation upon entry. During the site survey, the team noted additional wayfinding was needed and that integrating architectural enhancements would elevate the aesthetics of the entrance to provide visitors with a landmark. Gray proposed a comprehensive wayfinding and signage solution that improved traffic flow while seizing the opportunity to enhance the brand throughout the entire design system, along with main entrance enhancements that combined signage, wayfinding and architectural solutions. The solution consisted of several components; a monument sign and walkway structure at the main entrance and a gate. The overall design aesthetic for each component integrated the natural prairie environment and the church’s unique architectural design elements. Using mixed materials with many irregular angles complemented the building’s exterior and the organic feel of the surrounding tall grasses. Gray enhanced the main entrance with an architectural walkway and monument sign to serve as a navigation marker. In addition to offering an eye-catching design, the walkway added shade, shelter and outdoor seating following services for congregates to commune. The main entrance architectural elements illuminate in the evening, highlighting the design and aiding in navigation.
